Colleges and Universities: What’s the Difference?
In many countries, a college is an institution of lower ranking to a university, and offers only vocational courses. This is not the case in America. In fact quite the opposite is true, and many of the finest private liberal arts institutions in the land are called colleges.  We offer both two-year liberal arts colleges, from which you can progress to top tier institutions to complete your studies, and four-year colleges, offering full bachelor degree programs. Traditionally, only universities offered graduate studies, but today, even this is no longer the case, and many of our college
partners also offer graduate programs.

Community Colleges in America
These are state-run and funded two-year colleges offering a wide range of undergraduate classes that can lead to an Associate’s degree.  As well as traditional core disciplines such as  mathematics, business, science and history,  they also offer excellent vocational training in  areas such as tourism, accounting, electronics, graphic design, hospital administration, and  hospitality management. The curriculum is very flexible and it is possible to complete one year of study or less and gain valuable college credits. Alternatively, you can also progress from community college to university, where you complete your final two years to achieve the more advanced Bachelor’s Degree.  Although the academic requirements are not as stringent and class sizes are typically larger, the quality of teaching is very good and courses are very reasonably priced.

English Language Transition Programs and Language Schools
Most international students do not have the English language requirements to enable them to start their studies at either a university or community college in America. Many of our partner universities offer their own English transition programs. As long as you can fulfill the academic requirements for entry, you are admitted at a lower level of English proficiency and can take intensive English programs while a university student, until you are ready to join academic credit classes. This is a great way to integrate into university life and progress to degree study quickly. Alternatively, you might choose to take a degree preparation course at a reputable language school before you begin your university course. Embassy CES Language Schools, located in key destinations across the United States, are part of the Study Group family, and offer excellent pre-degree language programs.
