But you don’t have to be a varsity athlete to play at PLU. In fact, we encourage students to try something new – it’s part of our belief that the best education includes challenging your mind and body. So, suit up with the varsity teams, learn a new club sport such as ultimate Frisbee or lacrosse, or join up with your friends as part of the Intramural Sports or Outdoor Recreation programs.
The PLU campus offers an auditorium, concert hall, fitness center, two gyms, golf course, multi-purpose complex with gym, racquetball courts and dance studio, student center (media complex, games room), swimming pool, tennis courts, W.M. Keck Observatory, wilderness preserve (6 acres). The library features more than 500,000 periodicals and the main computer suite has both PCs and Macs for student use. There are more than 60 clubs and organizations, intercollegiate and intramural sports, music and concerts, theater group, literary magazine, orchestra, student-run newspaper, student-run TV and radio station.
PLU offers residence halls that have their own individual character. Most are coed living and include kitchens on most floors, laundry facilities, study and TV lounges, two students to a room, telephone with voicemail, Internet connection and cable TV access. Halls also have indoor bike storage, postal delivery and pick-up, and vending machines.
PLU is also just minutes away from downtown Tacoma and the world famous Museum of Glass, the Tacoma Art Museum and the Washington State History Museum. The short drive to Seattle means you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy big-city entertainment like the Experience Music Project or major league ballgames at beautiful Safeco Field. And given that the Seattle-Tacoma area is situated on the vibrant and culturally diverse Pacific Rim, there is no shortage of opportunities – from tracking down Asian cuisine and cultural delights to starting an internship at a global trading company.
