Sierra Nevada College is a private 4-year liberal arts College with opportunities for studying in more than 30 majors, minors and concentrations. Located near the shores of scenic Lake Tahoe, bordering California and Nevada, SNC provides students a high-quality education in a personalized environment designed to prepare them for successful lives and careers. SNC values the uniqueness of the individual within a greater community and the spirit of entrepreneurship in itself and its students.
At Sierra Nevada College the spectacular location is used to the fullest. Here, a nearby alpine meadow or mountain peak provides the sort of hands-on experience students at other schools can only read about. The ski resort management, entertainment technology and entrepreneurship programs stand apart. And the new Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences (shared with U.C. Davis) affords even greater opportunities for learning.
In addition to Science and Humanities, further programs were added which capitalized on the characteristics of the Lake Tahoe area. Music and Art Departments were formed, drawing from the rich resource of artists, musicians, and performing arts events in the Lake Tahoe region. Because of the wide variety of business enterprises in the Lake Tahoe Basin, Sierra Nevada College also developed a Business Administration Department, with concentrations in Ski Business and Resort Management and Hotel Restaurant and Resort Management emerging in the late 1980's. The Teacher Education Program, a graduate level program, started in 1989 using its location to prepare teachers for certification in both Nevada and California.
