Clemens College was founded in 1992 as the Swiss Hospitality Institute, in Washington, Connecticut. In 1994, the institution was approved to confer collegiate programs at the associate degree level, and was renamed the International College of Hospitality Management, César Ritz. In 2003, under new ownership, the college was relocated to Suffield, Connecticut, on the grounds of the former St. Alphonsus College. In 2007, the name was changed to Clemens College to honor Samuel Clemens, one of Connecticut’s best loved literary figures, better know by his pen-name, Mark Twain.

Clemens College has four start dates: August, November, February and April, and as an o 84% graduate rate, o 100% placement rate and articulation agreements with Johnson and Wales, and Endicott.

The College's philosophy is a matter of standards rather than size. Like other educational institutions of proven leadership, Clemens College has achieved a defining role in its field through uncompromising adherence to excellence.

Student life on campus is directly related to the energy and creativity of the student body. The College offers a selection of exercise machines, basketball courts, and sports equipment for basketball, volleyball, and soccer. A variety of outdoor recreational and sports activities are available locally. During the summer and fall, nearby Sunrise Park and state parks are ideal for swimming, boating, bicycling, hiking, and camping. Clemens College is located in beautiful Suffield, Connecticut – ninety minutes from Boston and only fifteen minutes from Bradley International Airport in Hartford, Connecticut.

Suffield remains immersed in historic richness. Main Street, a designated historic district typifies a New England town. Kent Memorial Library is a foremost research center for source materials, records, and documents from north central Connecticut. A walk along Main Street is a rich architectural expedition into an 18th and 19th century landscape.

Suffield is a gracious town with a rural flavor in a suburban setting. The town center boasts a small shopping complex and an excellent library. Recent expansion of public buildings includes a police station and school additions and renovations. Bradley International Airport on the southern boundary attracts business, while quick access to I-91 makes commuting up and down the Connecticut River valley from Vermont and New Hampshire to Long Island Sound an easy trip.

This town is rich in contrasts - sweeping fields, forested hills, a picturesque Main Street, farms, shopping areas, and the Congamond Lakes. There are over 43 square miles of countryside. Some agricultural lands have given way to housing developments, though far-sighted citizens helped purchase property on West Suffield Mountain, where Sunrise Park offers a lake, hiking trails, picnic and recreation areas to town residents. Other lands are being preserved through the Suffield Land Conservancy, the Nature Conservancy, and the Farmland Preservation Act.
