The 2009 Princeton Review names Florida Southern College as one of The Best 368 Colleges in the U.S.!
Founded in 1883, Florida Southern is a magnificent, 100-acre lakeside community in the heart of Florida's citrus belt and within an hour's drive of the state's major recreational attractions, including Disney World. It offers a rich liberal arts curriculum with more than 40 majors, seven pre-professional programs, and the opportunity for combination majors and special concentrations. Nearly one-third of FSC students begin their college careers without a major and enter a curriculum specifically designed to guide them toward a field of study. The campus, itself, is a historic landmark featuring a large collection of buildings by Frank Lloyd Wright, America's most famous architect.
Florida Southern has a superb liberal arts core, as well as outstanding pre-professional programs (including business, communications, pre-medical, pre-law, nursing, education, sciences, as well as others). The college is nationally acclaimed for academic excellence, exceptional student life programs, and championship athletics. Florida Southern is consistently ranked in the Top 10 colleges in its U.S. News & World Report category. It is also listed in The Princeton Review’s Best Southeastern Colleges, based on FSC students’ satisfaction votes.
Florida Southern academic programs offer students a wide variety of active learning experiences: stimulating class discussions; student-faculty collaborative research; student faculty collaborative performance; internships, study abroad; independent study; and service learning. The faculty members are dedicated teacher/scholars and have outstanding records of accomplishment that support dynamic, personalized instruction.
Florida Southern offers degree programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Sacred Music, and Bachelor of Music Education degrees in over forty majors and concentrations. In our Evening Program, we offer undergraduate programs in education, psychology, business administration, accounting, and nursing (RN to BSN) as well as the MBA, MAT, and MEd. We have extended degree programs in Orlando and Ocala. Here in Lakeland, our majors include everything from accounting to theatre, art to sports management, biology to turfgrass management.
