Marietta College was founded nearly two centuries ago in Marietta, Ohio, the first settlement in the Northwest Territory. Initially charged with educating youth in "all the various branches of the liberal arts and sciences," Marietta College has continued to blend a strong curriculum in these areas with selected career-oriented programs. Marietta takes pride in maintaining excellent and demanding academic programs that result from high expectations of our faculty, who are dedicated to working with talented undergraduate students. The learning environment is culturally and geographically diverse with students coming from 42 states and 12 countries.

In addition to the more traditional liberal arts programs, Marietta offers several innovative career-oriented programs such as sports medicine, computer science, petroleum engineering, and environmental science. We also provide a diversity of concentrations such as leadership, finance, and Asian studies, which provide opportunities for a rich undergraduate experience.

Marietta's strong liberal arts curriculum and variety of majors will provide you a foundation for graduate school and any career, but Marietta College is more than this. The school will enrich your  education through some very special opportunities that include: The first-year student program, MC's international community, McDonough Leadership Program, MC's Honors program, MC's faculty.

While academic programs at Marietta College are quite diverse, all have a strong liberal arts foundation. From traditional liberal arts majors such as English and History, to unique professional programs, including Petroleum Engineering and Athletic Training, each major is carefully designed to prepare students for life after college.

The academic programs are supported by a number of centers that focus on success: the Academic Resource Center provides tutoring and study skills training, the Writing Center helps students improve their writing, the library provides electronic sources and extensive databases as well as the traditional printed materials, and special services are provided to our international students who are making the transition to a new culture.
