A private, four-year, co-educational, liberal arts college. Founded in 1819, Maryville is the 12th-oldest institution of higher education in the South and one of the 50 oldest colleges in the United States. Maryville is one of only 12  colleges selected by the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) and the National Policy Center on the First Year of College to participate as a founding member in the national project, “Foundations of Excellence in the First Year of College.”

Fifty diverse fields of study; pre-professional programs are offered in business administration, law, theology/ ministry, medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, physical therapy and other health-related professions.

Maryville College offers students over 60 different clubs and organizations to join, and has residence halls that are either shared apartment style-living, suite-style rooms, and double or single occupancy rooms.  Residence halls all include social rooms with pool tables, TVs and VCR, laundry facilities, vending machines, locked front doors, desk with bookshelf and chair, dresser and closet, phone jack and free voice mail, cable TV connection, and a non-smoking policy.
Maryville College is located in Maryville, Tennessee, which just happens to be one of the best places in the nation to live. In 1999, A&E Network's weekly television series A&E Top 10 declared Maryville a city that "has it all." Your Money magazine listed Maryville in its 1999 ranking of the top 12 places in the nation to retire, and the National Strategy Group named it one of "America's Select Cities."

On top of that, Maryville is just a 15-minute ride from Knoxville, a metropolitan area of nearly a half-million residents. Then there are the Great Smoky Mountains, home of America's most popular national park, 20 minutes to the east.
